""Did you ever get fed up?" I said. " I mean did you ever get scared that everything was going to go lousy unless you did something? I mean do you like school, and all that stuff?""
I think in this paragraph Holden is really trying to find another way to relate to this girl, he's looking beyond the outside figures and surfaced comments and trying to look deep down and find if there is anyone hope that anyone else feels like he does. Almost trying to show that he cant be that much different then everyone else if other people are feeling how he does. I believe this is very important for Holden because unlike other people he has had sit down conversations with, he is really trying to look for a real connection, a real like person who's not all phonie.

I agree with you on this Maddie. I think that Holden is really trying to get this girl. I think its weird though that he says he is in love with her before he even talks to her and gets to know her. This is like the first time in the book when Holden talks to someone about things like this. This is his first real connection to someone.
ReplyDeleteI somewhat agreee, yet I don't think Holden is worried about being the same as other people. I think he wants to be different, either that or he just knows he is. I do think that he wants someone to connect to though; especially Phoebe. Even though what he expected from her, he didn't actually get, since she didn't really understand him the way he thought she would.
ReplyDeleteYa I completly agree with what your saying except I think by Holdens standerds she is also a phonie...I just wish that she would have listned to him more and not shut him down.
